Passing of our Patriach

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of the founder, patriarch of our family and our mentor, Abdulhay Mohamed Mayet who passed away on 13 July 2020. As you by now probably know, Abdulhay was ill for the past several years and was diagnosed, ultimately, with Parkinson in 2015. We mourn the loss of our father and mentor.

Abdulhay built valuable relationships with industry role players, clients, brokers across the country and Insurers across the globe since he started in the insurance industry whilst working for his late father since 1963. During 1979 he started the business which is now commonly known as Reliance.

In 1988 his daughter Fatima commenced working for him and eventually rose in the ranks and is now a fullyfledged director in charge of financial aspects of the business as its chief financial officer. Fatima has extensive experience in underwriting, claims and every aspect of the business.

Somayya commenced working for Reliance during 1992. She too, started off as an administrative clerk and eventually rose the ranks and also gained invaluable experience under the leadership of Abdulhay.

That Reliance has served its customers and the community at large is well known. The sterling service which Abdulhay rendered to his clients and the invaluable relationships he built up has stood Reliance in good stead for the years to come.

We are mindful that, particularly during the turbulent times, what will set us apart from our competitors is the service offerings and the level of service we render. We assure you that the service you have come to expect of Reliance will continue well into the future under our joint leadership. We were both appointed as directors of the company during 2004 and we have played an integral role in the management of operations of Reliance.

At least since 2015, Abdulhay delegated the function of the management of the Reliance Group to us, his daughters, and assure you of our continued dedication and our commitment to service excellence.

As usual, we will continue to monitor your portfolios and we will remain of service to you. We intend continuing with our business of maintaining personal relationships, which we understand is the cornerstone of our business. Reliance team will continue to conduct on site visits to ensure that your insurance needs are catered for at all times.
